We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person to join the Medical Equipment Library (MEL) as a Healthcare Science Assistant.The MEL manages and supplies a range of medical equipment to departments across the Trust, helping ensure that patients have the right equipment at the right time.
The departments operating hours are Monday to Friday, 08.00 - 17.30.
This role is a physically active one, in which your primary duties will be the delivery of equipment to wards across the hospital, as well as collecting and decontaminating equipment after use in line with trust policies. Additionally you will be required to attend some equipment breakdowns and assist with troubleshooting some equipment issues and helping staff on some basic equipment operation.
We are looking for an individual with a positive professional attitude and a flexible approach to meet the growing demands of this busy department. Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team, as well as on your own initiative, are vital.

The Medical Equipment Library (MEL) is a team of 10 staff who provide an excellent service to wards and departments across the trust.
The team has seven Healthcare Science Assistants (HSA's) , whose main responsibilities are the delivery and collection of equipment requested by wards, as well as the cleaning of any equipment returned to the dept.
This is a physically active role with lots of walking and also requires the use of a powered trolley when delivering Equipment across the trust. The role entails a high level of manual handling, generally of loads less than 12kg. You will also use a handheld device to manage any tasks allocated to you to ensure that equipment is delivered within department standards .
The department operates a rota system, which ensures that tasks for the day and week are fairly and evenly distributed across all HSAs.
You will also be required to contact wards to confirm if patients are still using certain types of equipment as part of the above rota.
Visits to potentially distressing areas such as A&E or ITU are a part of this role.
